Michael Hutchison writes that mental states like depression and anxiety are associated with very specific biochemical secretions and that floating has a dramatic effect on the biochemicals associated with depression and anxiety. Thomas Fine and othres noted in their paper ‘Floatation Rest in Applied Psycho-physiology that some 70% of patients surveyed reported far more by than any other modality. Second to floating was relaxation training, physical therapy and finally medication.
The after effects are:
- Improved sleep pattern
- Mental concentration
- Interpersonal relationships
- Ability to work plus cope with stress and pain
- Enjoy state of well-being
From this research and our own feedback, we can add that in the state of depression, floating can lead to much creativity similarly calming and offering a safe haven for anxiety ridden individuals – therefore becoming more of oneself.
